Management Accountant - Night Shift

About the role

An international client of Netfone is looking for a Management Accountant to lead a finance team and run an AI-assisted accounting function. The role suits someone who already uses Claude and MCP connectors in daily work and wants to build a finance function where AI handles routine processing while people focus on analysis, control and decisions. Working hours are online from 8am to 2pm NZ time; the rest can be done in your own timezone.

Key responsibilities

• Lead, coach and set objectives for three finance staff, including workload planning and performance reviews, and train them to use Claude and MCP connectors safely.
• Own the month-end close, produce monthly management accounts, P&L, balance sheet and cash flow, and present reports and dashboards to senior management.
• Lead annual budgeting, rolling forecasts and variance analysis, and track MRR, churn, revenue per site and customer profitability.
• Design accounting workflows using Claude with the Xero MCP connector and Microsoft 365 connectors, and automate invoice review, aged receivables follow-up, reconciliations and report drafting.
• Work with the development team on the Ecosystem automation project and set controls for AI use, including human review, access permissions and audit trails.
• Set and apply credit policy and limits, analyse aged receivables and refer overdue accounts to the external debt management company, Under Control, and report on debtor days and bad-debt risk.
• Maintain the customer and supplier contract register, ensure billing in Xero matches contracts, resolve billing queries and review terms for financial risk.
• Manage GST and other tax obligations, maintain internal controls and prepare for the annual audit.

Required profile

• Xero Advisor certification (current).
• Degree in accounting or finance and a recognised professional qualification (CA ANZ, CPA, CIMA or equivalent), or close to completing one.
• At least 5 years in management accounting, including 2 years leading a team.
• Proven experience in contract management and credit management, and a track record of reporting to senior management.
• Fluent written and spoken English, very high attention to detail, and strong Excel skills.

Required skills

• Advanced hands-on skills with MCP connectors and proven expertise using Claude for accounting work.
• Experience in contract management and credit management.
• Desirable: experience in the Asia Pacific region, multi-entity and multi-currency accounting (NZD and AUD), SaaS or telecoms subscription billing, knowledge of NZ and Australian tax and GST rules, and experience introducing automation to a finance team.
