About the role

Southern Cross, a historic restaurant, bar and events venue in Te Aro, Wellington, is seeking an energetic Kitchen Hand to keep the kitchen operating smoothly. This entry‑level position involves supporting chefs, maintaining cleanliness, and ensuring the kitchen is ready for service. You will work closely with the kitchen team to prepare stations and keep them organized throughout busy periods.

Key responsibilities

• Wash dishes, utensils and kitchen equipment efficiently.
• Maintain clean and tidy work areas throughout the shift.
• Assist chefs with basic food preparation tasks as required.
• Organise and stock kitchen supplies to support uninterrupted service.
• Dispose of waste according to recycling and hygiene guidelines.
• Support kitchen inventory checks and restocking.
• Follow health and safety standards to ensure a safe working environment.
