IT Technician – Platform Services

About the role

We are seeking a hands‑on IT Technician to join our Platform Services team at Qube Ports NZ. The role combines technical ownership of server and infrastructure platforms with on‑site support of operational technology across ports and other locations. You will mentor junior staff while remaining actively involved in day‑to‑day IT operations.

Key responsibilities

• Manage and support server, compute, and infrastructure platforms.
• Provide escalation support to Service Desk and Network teams.
• Resolve incidents, problems, and change requests efficiently.
• Support technology on mobile plant, machinery, portacoms, cranes, and other operational equipment.
• Assist technical projects and transition solutions into operations.
• Manage third‑party service providers and ensure SLA compliance.
• Maintain accurate documentation, runbooks, asset registers, and system diagrams.
• Participate in operational reviews, continuous improvement initiatives, and a rostered after‑hours support schedule.
• Travel to other sites across New Zealand as required.

Required profile

• Tertiary qualification in IT.
• 5+ years of experience in IT operations, platform services, or technical support.
• Proven ability to work autonomously in a fast‑paced environment.
• Strong communication skills with both technical and non‑technical stakeholders.
• New Zealand citizenship and ability to pass pre‑employment medical, drug, ACC and MOJ checks.

• Operational technology experience (electronics, Raspberry Pi, camera systems, CCTV, auto tally stations, debarker, radios, harbour crane interfaces, scanners)
