High Voltage Control Room Operator

About the role

Ventia is seeking two High Voltage Control Room Operators to join the team at its Kawerau site near Rotorua. The role involves real‑time monitoring, operation and maintenance of high‑voltage electrical assets such as boilers, transformers, switching systems and distribution networks, ensuring a safe and reliable power supply.

Key responsibilities

• Monitor and control HV equipment, interpreting instrument readings and performing routine operating tests.
• Initiate fault restoration and emergency response actions in accordance with safety and regulatory standards.
• Maintain accurate records and reports on equipment performance, switching operations and maintenance activities.
• Collaborate with a national Electrical Services team, sharing insights with supervisors and colleagues.
• Ensure compliance with environmental, health and safety, and contractual requirements.

Required profile

• Minimum three years’ experience in a control‑room environment monitoring electricity networks.
• Valid EWRB licence.
• Strong analytical ability and composure under pressure.
• Effective communication skills and a commitment to high health‑and‑safety standards.

Required skills

• Experience with Vector network control systems.
• Technical knowledge of electricity distribution networks and HV equipment.
• Proficiency in fault restoration and emergency response procedures.
• Report writing and record‑keeping for operational data.
