Functional Leader, Product Development

About the role

Fisher & Paykel, a global company with a strong New Zealand heritage, is looking for a Functional Leader within its Product Development organisation. The role combines strong technical understanding with people leadership: you will lead, coach and develop a team of technical specialists, build the technical knowledge of your functional area and deploy people and resources against current and future product priorities.

Key responsibilities

• Lead, coach and develop a team of technical specialists, providing clear direction, ongoing feedback and coaching and mentoring.
• Build deep capability in your functional area and ensure critical technical knowledge is captured, shared and developed for future use.
• Translate product and project priorities into clear functional and individual goals.
• Deploy people and resources effectively against current and future product development requirements.
• Partner across engineering and other functions to identify interdependencies, resolve challenges and deliver strong outcomes.
• Ensure technical decisions and solutions align with project goals and deliver value for internal and external customers.
• Champion continuous improvement, learning and the evolution of engineering practices, systems and processes.
• Create clarity, accountability and open dialogue while encouraging constructive challenge and collaboration.

Required profile

• A relevant Engineering or Science tertiary qualification.
• Experience leading and developing people in an engineering, product development or technically complex environment.
• Strong functional or technical expertise and an understanding of engineering principles, systems and processes.
• Ability to coach, mentor and grow specialist technical talent.
• Commercial awareness and the ability to connect technical decisions with wider business and customer outcomes.
• Strategic thinking, strong communication, influencing and collaboration skills, and sound judgement in complex or changing environments.
