Employment Relations Specialist

About the role

You will manage complex, high‑stakes employment relations cases across NZ Post, guiding leaders, employees and unions through investigations, disputes and mediations. This senior specialist position requires practical, human‑centred judgement to resolve sensitive workplace matters with fairness and operational insight.

Key responsibilities

• Support leaders through end‑to‑end complex ER matters, providing clear, risk‑aware advice.
• Lead or support workplace investigations, ensuring fairness and sound judgement.
• Manage personal grievances and represent NZ Post in mediations when required.
• Build and maintain constructive relationships with unions and key stakeholders.
• Coach leaders to navigate people challenges confidently.
• Identify and implement improvements to ER practices, tools and outcomes.

Required profile

• Proven experience handling employment, HR, legal, investigation or workplace relations matters.
• Strong sense of fair process, confidentiality and sound decision‑making.
• Working knowledge of New Zealand employment legislation or ability to acquire it quickly.
• Excellent written and verbal communication, with a warm, clear style.
• Ability to build trust with leaders, employees, unions and stakeholders.
