Emergency Medicine Registrar (non-training)

About the role

We are seeking two Emergency Medicine Registrars (non‑training) to join the Emergency Department at Timaru Hospital in South Canterbury, New Zealand. The role provides high‑level clinical responsibility, direct mentorship from senior consultants and extensive exposure to a wide range of acute presentations in a supportive provincial hospital setting.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver high‑quality clinical care to patients presenting to the Emergency Department.
• Collaborate with consultants, resident medical officers, nursing staff and multidisciplinary teams.
• Assume increasing clinical responsibility appropriate to experience.
• Participate in weekly teaching sessions, case discussions and service‑improvement meetings.
• Contribute to a positive team culture focused on patient safety and excellence.

Required profile

• Strong, broad‑based clinical skills and sound clinical judgement.
• Excellent interpersonal and communication abilities.
• Ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team.
• Enthusiasm, adaptability and willingness to take on clinical responsibility.
• Genuine interest in ongoing learning and professional development.

Required skills

• Management of undifferentiated patients, trauma, acute medical presentations and procedural work.
