Electricity Operations Controller

About the role

Vector is recruiting multiple Electricity Operations Controllers in Auckland to join the upgrade of its control room into a state-of-the-art environment. You will monitor and control the network, initiate fault restoration and emergency response, take part in contingency planning and provide technical and operational support. The role involves more than desk shifts, with opportunities to take part in studies for equipment release and switching scheduling.

Key responsibilities

• Monitor and control the real-time operation of the electricity network to ensure a safe, reliable, secure and continuous supply
• Initiate fault restoration and emergency response
• Authorise and control field outages and operational activities
• Take part in contingency planning
• Provide technical and operational support
• Contribute to system performance reporting

Required profile

• Communication and analytical skills, with the ability to stay calm and make sound decisions under pressure
• Ideally technical experience in electricity distribution networks or in an industrial/commercial setting
• Control room experience and/or existing experience with the Vector network is advantageous
• A relevant qualification or professional certification
• An inherent belief in the importance of high standards of health and safety

Required skills

• Experience using SCADA/ADMS is advantageous
• Ability to work a 7am-7pm rostered shift once fully trained, on a 4-on/4-off basis covering 2 days and 2 nights
