About the role
This permanent, part‑time role offers the chance to design and deliver innovative, curriculum‑aligned education programmes that bring Hawke’s Bay Museum’s collections to life for students aged 5‑18. You will work closely with the Visitor Engagement Manager, curators, teachers and community partners to enrich learning beyond the classroom.
Key responsibilities
- Develop and deliver engaging, NZ Curriculum‑aligned programmes for school visits, outreach, holiday camps and special initiatives.
- Create meaningful learning experiences that connect students with local histories, cultural narratives and museum resources.
- Collaborate with curators, educators, teachers and the Education Advisory Group to continuously improve programme quality.
- Deliver programmes across the museum, schools and community venues throughout Hawke’s Bay.
- Contribute to the ongoing development of the museum’s education offering.
Required profile
- Qualified educator with strong knowledge of the New Zealand Curriculum and effective teaching practice.
- Proven experience engaging young people in inclusive, participatory learning environments.
- Highly organised, proactive and able to balance delivery, planning and administration.
- Full, clean NZ driver’s licence.
- Interest in museums, galleries or the wider cultural sector.
- Commitment to Te Tiriti o Waitangi and culturally responsive practice.

- Annual salary pro‑rated for 32 hours/week: $54,800 – $64,500 NZD (including KiwiSaver).
- 5 weeks annual leave after 2 years service.
