About the role
This six‑month, full‑time position is based in Whangārei, Te Tai Tokerau, within the Learning Support team. The Early Intervention Teacher will work closely with families, teachers and trans‑disciplinary professionals to support children’s early learning and development.
Key responsibilities
- Provide high‑quality learning support in line with the Ministry’s He Pikopora framework, Te Whāriki curriculum and Kohanga Reo principles.
- Build the capability of parents, teachers and whānau to support children’s learning.
- Collaboratively plan, implement and monitor intervention plans tailored to each family’s needs.
- Support transition points such as entry into early childhood education and school.
- Work as part of a trans‑disciplinary team addressing complex child needs.
Required profile
- Fully registered Early Childhood teacher with a Bachelor of Teaching (Early Childhood).
- Post‑graduate Diploma in Specialist Teaching: Early Intervention (or ability to obtain within four years).
- Minimum four years of NZ teaching experience and strong knowledge of child development, learning and behaviour.
- Understanding of a range of needs and disabilities in early childhood and family contexts.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for working with learners, families and teachers.
- Commitment to the principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and tangata whenuatanga.
- Valid driver’s licence and eligibility to work in New Zealand (citizen, resident or valid visa).
Required skills
- Knowledge of child development and early learning curricula.
- Ability to design and deliver intervention plans.
- Collaboration within multi‑disciplinary teams.

- Fixed‑term six‑month contract, full‑time.
- Salary range $69,966 – $106,016 per annum plus KiwiSaver.
