Design Engineer – Power & Energy (Protection, Primary, Secondary, Substation)

About the role

We are partnering with two leading engineering consultancies expanding their power and energy teams across New Zealand. The role offers experienced Protection, Primary, Secondary, or Substation Design Engineers the chance to work on high‑impact transmission, distribution, renewable energy and infrastructure projects while enjoying the lifestyle New Zealand provides.

Key responsibilities

• Design of HV and EHV substations, including equipment layout and specification.
• Development of protection and control systems, performing protection studies and relay coordination.
• Primary plant layout and secondary systems design, integrating SCADA solutions.
• Conduct earthing, lightning protection, cable and network studies.
• Perform technical design reviews, quality assurance, and client/stakeholder engagement.
• Lead multidisciplinary project delivery and provide project leadership where required.

Required profile

• Degree or postgraduate qualification in Electrical Engineering recognised under the Washington Accord.
• Minimum 5 years of experience in power systems, protection, substation, primary or secondary design.
• Proven ability to deliver complex engineering projects in the power sector.
