Senior Power Electronics Engineer

About the role

ABB is seeking an experienced Senior Power Electronics Engineer to lead the development of advanced power conversion and power quality solutions for critical industrial, utility, renewable energy, data centre and infrastructure applications.

Key responsibilities

• Lead design and development of high‑power electronic converter systems, defining architectures, control strategies and conducting DFMEA.
• Review and approve designs, calculations, simulations and test plans while mentoring junior engineers.
• Develop converter topologies (VSI, CSI) using IGBT, SiC and GaN technologies and perform power stage analysis.
• Lead modelling and simulation activities (SPICE, PLECS, MATLAB/Simulink, PSCAD) and oversee laboratory testing.
• Drive root‑cause investigations, corrective actions and continuous improvement for performance, cost and reliability.

Required profile

• Bachelor's or Master's in Electrical Engineering, Power Electronics or related field.
• Minimum 8 + years of power electronics design and development experience.
• Strong expertise in three‑phase multi‑megawatt systems, grid‑connected applications and energy storage.
• Proven ability to lead complex projects from concept to production.
• Excellent English communication and willingness to travel occasionally to Hawke's Bay.
