Customer Manager

About the role

We are seeking a commercially‑savvy, relationship‑focused Customer Manager to support a portfolio of export‑oriented businesses. You will work closely with companies at a pivotal stage of growth, helping them sharpen strategy, prioritize actions and connect to the right resources to accelerate international success.

Key responsibilities

• Build trusted, long‑term partnerships with a portfolio of export customers.
• Understand each customer’s business, growth ambition and key challenges.
• Co‑design practical work programmes aligned to global goals.
• Prioritise efforts to generate the greatest commercial impact.
• Challenge thinking constructively and provide credible insight.
• Connect customers to NZTE experts, networks and offshore opportunities.
• Leverage regional and global relationships to unlock growth.

Required profile

• Experience supporting export growth, international expansion or scaling businesses (FBCG experience preferred).
• Ability to work with early‑stage companies and bring structure and focus.
• Strong stakeholder management with the ability to influence and build trust quickly.
• Outcome‑oriented mindset with strong prioritisation skills.
• Confidence to challenge constructively and guide customers through complexity.
• Collaborative, team‑first approach and passion for NZTE’s purpose.
• Demonstrated AI awareness and curiosity to build capability in this area.
• Exceptional communication skills across locations.
