Consultant Rheumatologist – Wellington Region

About the role

We are seeking a Consultant Rheumatologist to join our district‑wide Rheumatology Service across Hutt, Wellington, Kenepuru and Masterton hospitals. The role involves delivering patient‑centred specialist care, supporting disease management, and contributing to the ongoing development of the service.

Key responsibilities

• Provide comprehensive outpatient rheumatology clinics and inpatient consultations.
• Participate in the acute on‑call roster, offering timely specialist input.
• Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team of seven rheumatologists and five nurses.
• Support the expansion of musculoskeletal ultrasound capability within the service.
• Engage in shared decision‑making with patients to control symptoms and prevent joint or organ damage.

Required profile

• Medical qualification with specialist registration in rheumatology.
• Commitment to high‑quality, compassionate patient care.
• Ability to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary environment.
• Willingness to contribute to service improvement and teaching activities.
