Consultant – Insolvency & Restructuring (2 roles)

About the role
Teneo, a global CEO advisory firm, is expanding its New Zealand practice and is looking for two consultants to support insolvency and restructuring engagements. One position targets candidates with around two years of audit or BAS accounting experience, and the other is for recent graduates. Both roles are hands‑on and include a structured learning and development pathway.
Key responsibilities
- Manage day‑to‑day work across formal insolvency appointments, independent business reviews and restructuring engagements.
- Assess companies’ financial positions, short‑term cash flow, asset recoveries and creditor outcomes.
- Analyse financial records, business performance, security positions and stakeholder interests to inform strategy.
- Support trading administrations, receiverships, liquidations and other turnaround processes, often under time‑critical conditions.
- Assist investigations into company affairs, transactions and stakeholder positions, preparing clear findings and recommendations.
- Develop and implement asset realisation and recovery strategies for secured and unsecured creditors.
- Liaise with banks, legal advisers, directors, management teams, creditors and other stakeholders throughout engagements.
- Prepare high‑quality reports, correspondence and statutory documentation to meet legal and regulatory requirements.
- Coordinate workstreams across multiple engagements, manage competing priorities and contribute to timely delivery.
- Support senior team members in identifying commercial issues, managing risks and progressing restructuring strategies.
Required profile
- Either ~2 years experience in audit or BAS accounting, or a recent graduate with a relevant degree.
- Strong analytical mindset and ability to work in time‑critical situations.
- Effective communication skills for liaising with banks, legal advisers, directors, creditors and other stakeholders.
- Willingness to learn and develop within insolvency and restructuring practice.
