About the role
Health New Zealand | Te Whatu Ora is seeking a Consultant Haematologist to deliver comprehensive specialist care across malignant and non‑malignant haematology services. The role spans multiple hospitals in the Wellington region and offers the chance to work closely with the Clinical Leader of Oncology and the Director of Medical Services.
Key responsibilities
- Provide expert clinical assessment, diagnosis and management for patients referred to the Wellington Blood and Cancer Haematology Service.
- Lead outpatient clinics, inpatient wards and laboratory oversight for haematology patients.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to ensure coordinated, patient‑centred care.
- Contribute to service development, quality improvement initiatives, clinical governance and teaching activities.
- Participate in national transplant forums and clinical research programmes, including CAR‑T therapy trials.
Required profile
- Medical degree with FRACP (or equivalent) registration in New Zealand.
- Significant experience in haematology at a senior consultant level.
- Demonstrated interest or expertise in bone marrow transplantation is strongly preferred.
- Commitment to delivering high‑quality, equitable care aligned with Te Tiriti o Waitangi principles.
