Communications Technician – Inside Plant (Twizel)

About the role

Ventia is looking for an Inside Plant Communications Technician to support critical power network infrastructure in Twizel. You will install, commission, test and maintain low‑voltage power and communications equipment that keep essential services running.

Key responsibilities

• Install and commission low‑voltage DC power systems, including battery testing and maintenance.
• Deploy and commission transmission systems such as OTN, MPLS, SDH and PDH.
• Test and commission inside‑plant communications equipment.
• Perform fault finding and troubleshooting across communications and DC power systems.
• Install, splice and terminate copper and fibre‑optic cabling.
• Interpret and update technical drawings, diagrams and schematics.

Required profile

• Technically capable and safety‑focused professional with experience in critical infrastructure, power or telecommunications environments.
• Experience with low‑voltage power plant installation and commissioning.
• Knowledge of battery systems and testing procedures.
• Hands‑on experience with fibre splicing and installation work.
• Strong problem‑solving and diagnostic capability.
• Good physical fitness and ability to work at heights or on ladders.
• Collaborative approach and commitment to safety.
