Communications Advisor

About the role

The Waimakariri District Council is seeking a Communications Advisor to work 30 hours per week, providing high‑quality communications support that ensures clear, consistent, and effective engagement with residents, stakeholders, and the wider community.

Key responsibilities

• Draft speeches, columns, correspondence, award citations and event‑related communications that reflect the Mayor’s voice and Council priorities.
• Provide advice and practical support for social‑media content, document review, community recognition initiatives and public events.
• Develop creative communication strategies and select appropriate channels to reach target audiences.
• Maintain accuracy, discretion and attention to detail across all communications outputs.
• Collaborate with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders, ensuring timely and effective information flow.

Required profile

• Proven experience in a similar communications or public‑relations role.
• Excellent written communication skills with the ability to adapt tone to senior leadership.
• Strong team player who enjoys stakeholder interaction and can thrive under pressure.
• Customer‑service oriented with a “can‑do” attitude and ability to prioritise multiple tasks.
