Clinical Veterinarian – Shelter Desexing Campaign

About the role
Auckland Council is seeking a compassionate Clinical Veterinarian to support its city‑wide desexing campaign across four animal shelters. The role is fully clinical, allowing you to focus on high‑quality animal care without client financial discussions.
Key responsibilities
- Perform surgeries, consultations and routine medical care for a variety of animals.
- Provide advice and training to Animal Management staff on best‑practice welfare standards.
- Maintain accurate clinical records and ensure compliance with veterinary regulations.
- Participate in community education and outreach initiatives related to animal health.
- Work across multiple shelter locations, primarily at Henderson Animal Shelter.
Required profile
- Degree in Veterinary Medicine with at least 5 years of clinical experience.
- Current registration (or eligibility) with the Veterinary Council of New Zealand.
- Strong surgical ability and experience with animals of various sizes and temperaments.
- Excellent communication, organisational and time‑management skills.
- Cultural awareness and willingness to engage with te reo Māori and tikanga Māori.
