Clinical Diabetes Specialist – Primary Care (Taranaki)

About the role

The position offers an exciting opportunity to join a multidisciplinary Diabetes Integrated Team across primary, community and hospital settings in Taranaki. As a Clinical Diabetes Specialist you will provide expert clinical support, education and guidance to health professionals caring for people with diabetes and their families.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver clinical expertise and advice to general practice clinics, community services and hospital teams.
• Develop and lead diabetes education programmes for staff and patients.
• Support workforce competency by providing targeted training and mentorship.
• Promote best‑practice diabetes management aligned with national quality standards.
• Engage with priority populations through innovative community‑based activities.

Required profile

• Registered clinician with a current practising certificate and prescribing authority.
• Minimum three years of health experience in primary care.
• Postgraduate qualification in diabetes education (preferred).
• Full, current driver’s licence.
• Demonstrated ability to deliver high‑quality clinical education.
