About the role

Join the healthcare team at Auckland South Corrections Facility as a Casual Registered Nurse. This position focuses on delivering equity‑based, culturally responsive care to people in custody, supporting their wellbeing, manaakitanga and rehabilitation.

Key responsibilities

• Uphold and apply the principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi in everyday nursing practice.
• Provide care that protects and enhances the mana and dignity of people in custody.
• Support Māori models of health, including Te Whare Tapa Whā, to inform care planning.
• Deliver trauma‑informed, culturally safe care that recognises intergenerational and social health impacts.
• Work in partnership with whānau, iwi and health providers to ensure continuity of care.
• Advocate for equitable health outcomes across diverse populations.

Required profile

• Current registration with the Nursing Council of New Zealand and a valid Annual Practising Certificate.
• At least two years post‑registration experience in primary health, acute or emergency care.
• Strong understanding of Te Tiriti o Waitangi, kaupapa Māori practice and cultural safety.
• Commitment to working alongside Māori and diverse communities.
• Ability to build trust through respectful communication and relationship‑building.

Required skills

• Demonstrated cultural humility and knowledge of Māori health models.
• Experience delivering care in high‑risk or correctional environments is advantageous.
