Campus Watch Team Member – University Safety Role

About the role

The Campus Watch Team Member provides a pastoral and safety presence across the University of Otago campus and the surrounding North Dunedin community. Working on a rotating 24‑hour roster, you help create a secure environment that supports students as they transition to adulthood.

Key responsibilities

• Maintain a highly visible presence to deter crime and disorder.
• Respond promptly to requests for assistance involving personal safety or property.
• Act as a walking information point, offering advice and guidance to students and visitors.
• Collaborate with other Campus Watch teams to ensure continuous coverage.
• Complete routine shift duties outside core working hours.

Required profile

• Physically fit and able to work varied shifts.
• Strong ability to relate to young people.
• Excellent communication, common sense, patience and tact.
• Good sense of humour and ability to work with diverse backgrounds.
• Knowledge of relevant New Zealand law.
• Current driver’s licence and willingness to hold a First Aid Certificate.

Required skills

• Basic computing skills.

What we offer

• Permanent full‑time position (37.5 hours per week) for the academic year (February – November).
• Salary range $63,508 – $73,640 pro‑rata per annum.
• 6.75 % superannuation, five weeks annual leave, long‑service and additional paid parental leave entitlements.
