Assistant Accountant

About the role

KPMG New Zealand is seeking a detail‑oriented and proactive Assistant Accountant to join its finance team. In this role you will help deliver accurate, timely financial reporting and support the firm’s financial performance across a fast‑paced, collaborative environment.

Key responsibilities

• Support the preparation and completion of high‑quality monthly and annual financial reports.
• Prepare monthly journals and perform general‑ledger analysis on time.
• Assist with cash‑flow forecasting by gathering and maintaining relevant financial data.
• Maintain tax compliance by preparing and filing GST and FBT returns accurately.
• Provide data and administrative support for the budgeting process.
• Complete balance‑sheet reconciliations, identifying and escalating discrepancies.

Required profile

• 2–3 years of experience in financial and management accounting.
• Solid understanding of journals, general‑ledger processes, and reconciliations.
• Knowledge of GST and FBT tax compliance.
• Experience with cash‑flow forecasting and financial data management.
• Excellent attention to detail and strong time‑management skills.
• Effective communication and stakeholder‑management abilities.
• Proactive attitude toward continuous improvement.
