Architecture Specialist

About the role

The Architecture Specialist will join Mason & Wales Architects in Dunedin, working on a diverse portfolio that includes master planning, institutional, hospitality, commercial, multi‑residential, and residential projects. This full‑time, on‑site role focuses on translating functional, aesthetic and sustainability requirements into coherent design solutions.

Key responsibilities

• Develop architectural concepts and produce detailed design documentation and drawings.
• Coordinate with consultants, contractors and multidisciplinary teams throughout project delivery.
• Ensure compliance with New Zealand building codes, standards and relevant regulations.
• Participate in client meetings, present design options and incorporate feedback.
• Support project planning, scheduling and continuous refinement of outcomes.

Required profile

• Professional architectural qualification and registration (or eligibility) with a recognised architectural body.
• Strong foundation in architecture and architectural design with experience delivering built projects.
• Effective communication skills for clear interaction with clients, colleagues, consultants and contractors.
• Problem‑solving mindset, collaborative working style and commitment to sustainable, high‑quality design.

Required skills

• Proficiency with CAD/BIM software.
• Knowledge of New Zealand building codes and standards.
