Animal Attendant

About the role
The Animal Attendant works within the Global Quality Operations team to ensure the welfare, health and productivity of a range of laboratory animal species. This full‑time, permanent position is based in Upper Hut, Wellington and supports breeding and welfare targets.
Key responsibilities
- Provide daily husbandry including feeding, cage and room cleaning, and general animal care.
- Assist with animal breeding programmes and maintain accurate breeding, health and husbandry records.
- Monitor animal health, report concerns promptly and use restricted veterinary medicines in line with legislation.
- Follow written procedures, Good Documentation Practice and animal welfare standards.
- Complete required training (ALASS) and participate in weekend, holiday and out‑of‑hours rosters.
- Support animal technicians by reviewing test schedules and carrying out husbandry tasks in testing areas.
- Contribute ideas for improving procedures, workflows, equipment or facilities.
Required profile
- Experience handling and caring for animals with a strong commitment to animal welfare.
- Ability to follow written instructions accurately.
- Good communication and excellent documentation skills.
- Physical fitness to perform prolonged activity and lift approximately 10 kg.
