Visual Design & Merchandising Assistant (12‑month Fixed Term)

About the role

Ballantynes is seeking a creative and detail‑oriented Visual Design & Merchandising Assistant to join its Visual team on a 12‑month fixed‑term contract. You will support both the Visual Merchandising and Visual Design teams, helping to bring the store environment to life throughout the year.

Key responsibilities

• Assist in creating window displays, large‑scale Christmas installations and in‑store merchandising concepts.
• Collaborate with the Visual Merchandising and Visual Design teams on a variety of projects.
• Ensure all visual elements meet Ballantynes’ high standards and distinctive brand style.
• Contribute to memorable customer experiences during seasonal peaks and everyday operations.
• Occasionally travel overnight to Timaru for project support.
• Provide flexibility and overtime during the Christmas installation period as required.

Required profile

• A passion for design and visual merchandising.
• Previous visual merchandising or relevant creative experience (desirable).
• Self‑motivated, organised and able to work in a fast‑paced, physical environment.
• Strong communication skills and ability to adapt and manage tasks effectively.
• Interest in Christmas displays and a full NZ driver’s licence.
• Eligibility to work in New Zealand.
