Technical/Engineering Manager - ECL

About the role

SGS, a global inspection, verification, testing and certification company, is looking for a Technical / Engineering Manager for its ECL team, based in New Plymouth. The role is accountable for all technical project execution, from tendering to closeout, and supports the Business Manager with tendering, client engagement and new opportunities.

Key responsibilities

• Provide technical governance by developing, maintaining and improving technical standards, processes, procedures and templates
• Review and approve deliverables, audit, investigate incidents and capture lessons learned
• Oversee all active projects, mitigating risks such as resourcing, scope changes and external factors
• Keep project budgets under control, identify variation opportunities and ensure monthly invoicing is accurate
• Maximise proposal win rates by keeping quoted scope aligned with client needs and commercial proposals competitive
• Ensure presales data is recorded correctly in the SGS CRM (Salesforce)
• Support negotiations with clients and suppliers, and handle procurement, proposal preparation and quoting within the assigned financial authority
• Manage project execution professionals through goals, performance metrics, development plans and mentoring

Required profile

• Tertiary qualification in Engineering or an associated technical field, with practical experience in the engineering sector
• Specific experience in industrial cybersecurity, functional safety and/or systems engineering
• Strong background in industrial automation and industrial control systems
• Functional safety certification or equivalent
• Project management qualification or equivalent (e.g. Prince2)
• Experience managing complex projects and understanding industrial risk, including integrated systems, cybersecurity and business
• Experience in business financial functions related to project delivery (procurement, invoicing)
• Unrestricted driver's licence
