Mechanical Fitter - Geothermal Projects

About the role

Following its acquisition of Gidlow Engineering, a specialist engineering company serving New Zealand's geothermal industry, SGS is seeking an experienced Mechanical Fitter for its Taupō team. You will maintain, repair, overhaul and install geothermal pipeline systems, valves, steamfield equipment and related infrastructure, working in both workshop and site environments on planned maintenance and critical outage projects.

Key responsibilities

• Perform routine maintenance, repairs, overhauls and installations on geothermal pipelines, valves and steamfield equipment
• Carry out planned and emergency outage work while minimising operational downtime
• Diagnose mechanical faults and implement effective repair solutions
• Use hand tools, power tools and specialist fitting equipment safely and efficiently
• Read and interpret technical drawings, blueprints, engineering specifications and work instructions
• Inspect and measure work to meet required standards and tolerances
• Maintain accurate records of maintenance, repairs, materials used and outage work
• Ensure compliance with HSEQ requirements and contribute to continuous improvement

Required profile

• Trade Certificate in Mechanical Engineering or an equivalent recognised qualification
• Proven experience as a Mechanical Fitter or in a similar engineering, maintenance or industrial fitting role
• Full New Zealand driver licence
• Desirable: previous geothermal or steamfield experience, A Class 2 and Class 4 licence, knowledge of HSEQ compliance, precision measuring tools and gauges, and additional specialist training
