Support Worker - Behavioural Support (North Shore)

About the role

IDEA Services is looking for a calm, confident Support Worker to provide consistent support to people with complex behavioural needs in the North Shore area. You will help people manage emotions, stay safe, build independence and work towards their goals. Full training is provided, with a strong team around you. The role suits someone patient, resilient and able to stay calm under pressure.

Key responsibilities

• Help people grow daily living skills, from catching public transport to cooking their own meals
• Assist with personal care routines such as showering, getting dressed, taking medication and looking after their own home
• Encourage and support people to engage in their interests, hobbies and personal goals
• Support healthy choices and overall wellbeing
• Provide calm, consistent support using positive behaviour strategies while ensuring dignity, safety and respect
• Support and strengthen relationships with whānau, colleagues and the wider community

Required profile

• Previous experience supporting people with complex behavioural needs is beneficial but not essential, as full training is provided
• Flexibility to work rostered shifts including days, evenings, sleepovers and weekends; availability for regular weekend shifts (one weekend a fortnight, both days)
• A calm and confident approach in challenging or heightened situations
• Physically able to support people in the community, including daily walks and gym programmes, and to respond safely when situations become heightened
• A full New Zealand driver's licence

Required skills

• Comfortable and proficient using computers and tablets
• Strong, clear written and verbal communication skills
