STMS – Traffic Management Supervisor in Queenstown

About the role

Join Downer’s Queenstown team as an STMS, leading crews that keep one of New Zealand’s most iconic regions moving safely. You will be responsible for delivering traffic management plans accurately, ensuring the safety of both workers and the public.

Key responsibilities

• Lead and support Traffic Management Officer (TMO) crews on‑site.
• Set up and pack down traffic control sites, run toolbox and closure briefings.
• Provide clear direction to crew members and mentor junior STMS staff.
• Ensure all works are completed safely and to a high standard.
• Respond to changing conditions, problem‑solve and adapt plans on the fly.

Required profile

• Physically fit and motivated.
• Valid STMS warrant (A/B or Level 1/2) – essential.
• Full Class 2 Driver’s Licence – highly desirable.
• Strong planning and problem‑solving abilities.
• Proven leadership with a coaching mindset.
• Clear, confident communication skills.
• Flexibility and adaptability in a dynamic outdoor role.
• Commitment to health and safety.

Required skills

• STMS warrant (A/B or Level 1/2).
• Class 2 Driver’s Licence.
