Software Engineer – Engineering Enablement

About the role

Phocas is looking for a Software Engineer to join its Engineering Enablement team in Christchurch. You will help the entire engineering organisation ship faster by removing friction, improving tooling, and championing AI‑driven development practices.

Key responsibilities

• Identify and eliminate bottlenecks across teams, including tooling, automation, and documentation gaps.
• Design, improve and maintain CI/CD pipelines, observability stack, and infrastructure‑as‑code.
• Consult with product, platform, security and operations teams to understand pain points and deliver high‑leverage fixes.
• Guide engineering teams in adopting AI tools and explore innovative ways to use AI in software development.
• Produce clear, actionable documentation that is widely adopted.
• Rapidly switch between diverse problems and technologies.

Required profile

• 3‑4 years of software development experience, preferably on a platform or shared‑services team.
• Solid application development skills and a pragmatic, outcome‑oriented mindset.
• Comfortable with DevOps practices and cloud infrastructure, especially AWS.
• Strong communication and writing abilities; enjoys unblocking others.
• Security‑thinking is a plus.
