Social Media & Content Advisor

About the role

Hutt City Council is seeking a Social Media & Content Advisor to lead its digital storytelling across Facebook, Instagram, TikTok and LinkedIn. You will create compelling content that informs, inspires and builds trust with the community while working flexibly within a supportive environment.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and deliver social media strategies that strengthen the Council’s online presence.
• Create high‑quality written, visual and multimedia content aligned with the Council’s brand and voice.
• Engage with the community, respond to enquiries and manage online conversations.
• Monitor performance, analyse insights and continuously improve content and engagement.
• Support the management of online issues, misinformation and reputational risks through proactive monitoring.
• Mentor and guide other Council teams on social media guidelines and brand usage.

Required profile

• Proven experience managing multiple social media channels and producing engaging digital content.
• Strong writing and editing abilities, with the capacity to tailor messages for different audiences.
• Up‑to‑date knowledge of emerging social media trends, tools and best practices.
• Experience using social media management and analytics platforms to measure success.
• Ability to collaborate across a large organisation and handle complex or sensitive issues.
• Understanding of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and commitment to embedding te ao Māori perspectives.
• Relevant qualification in communications, marketing or a related field is preferred.
