Social Media Advisor

About the role

The Social Media Advisor will be the voice of Tauranga City Council across all social platforms, turning council information into engaging, human‑focused stories. Working closely with the Strategic Content Lead, you will help build trust and understanding within the community by delivering clear, compelling content every day.

Key responsibilities

• Own the end‑to‑end management of council social media channels, from planning and publishing to monitoring and reporting.
• Create, edit and schedule content that highlights city projects, services and community events.
• Use analytics and social listening tools to assess performance, optimise strategy and report insights.
• Collaborate with internal teams to ensure brand consistency and compliance with governance processes.
• Respond to community queries and manage issues that arise on social platforms.

Required profile

• 2–5 years of experience in social media, digital communications, copywriting or content creation.
• Relevant qualification in communications, marketing or a related field.
• Proven ability to translate complex or technical information into clear, engaging copy.
• Experience working with diverse audiences, including Māori and iwi communities.
• Agency experience is a plus.
