About the role

Octane Systems develops enterprise software for the fuel and energy industry across New Zealand, Australia and Canada, connecting ERP, mobile apps, APIs and third-party integrations. It is looking for a Senior Software Developer in Hamilton who combines hands-on development with mentoring, technical guidance and strong software design capability. The role also contributes to improving the company's engineering practices.

Key responsibilities

• Design and develop high-quality software solutions across the ERP platform, integrations, APIs, mobile apps and modern web solutions.
• Lead technical design and implementation decisions, working with the Solution Architect on major architectural choices.
• Mentor developers through technical guidance, code reviews, pairing and knowledge sharing.
• Help decompose approved features into clear, estimable PBI tasks and identify technical dependencies and delivery risks.
• Support sprint planning and promote practical engineering standards and secure development practices.
• Give technical input into product and technology decisions and help shape the adoption of AI-assisted development.

Required profile

• 8+ years of commercial software development experience.
• Demonstrated experience mentoring other developers.
• Strong problem-solving and communication skills.

Required skills

• Strong C# and .NET expertise.
• Advanced SQL and database design.
• API and integration development; CI/CD pipelines and DevOps practices.
• Cloud deployment and support experience.
• Desirable: ASP.NET MVC.NET MAUI, Azure, ERP/logistics/fuel systems, AI agents, Agile backlog refinement and sprint planning.
