Senior Procurement Specialist

About the role

KiwiRail is seeking a Senior Procurement Specialist to join its Group Procurement team in Auckland. This permanent position focuses on ICT sourcing and will lead end‑to‑end procurement activities, supplier negotiations, contract management and strategic advice across the organisation.

Key responsibilities

• Lead full‑cycle ICT sourcing, from market engagement and RFP development to evaluation, negotiation, approvals and contract finalisation.
• Prepare procurement plans, recommendations and business case inputs.
• Provide commercial and procurement advice centred on total cost of ownership, risk, value and compliance.
• Negotiate supplier arrangements, support contract drafting, variations, KPIs and risk‑management clauses.
• Manage supplier relationships to improve performance, delivery confidence and alignment with KiwiRail objectives.
• Ensure compliance with Government Procurement Rules, KiwiRail policies and sustainable procurement practices.
• Identify and mitigate supplier, contractual and commercial risks.

Required profile

• 10+ years of commercial and technical experience in a medium to large organisation.
• Strong ability to analyse complex data, develop financial models and present insights clearly.
• Excellent communication skills with senior stakeholders and the ability to make sound decisions.
