Senior Cellar Hand – Winery Operations

About the role

We are looking for experienced cellar operators to join Matua Wines’ winery operations team in Rapaura. The role is hands‑on, shift‑based and involves running wine transfers, filtration, tank operations and leading the crew during harvest.

Key responsibilities

• Operate cellar equipment independently, including presses, pumps and filters.
• Conduct wine transfers, additions, filtration and manage tank operations.
• Maintain hygiene, food‑safety and quality standards throughout the cellar.
• Lead or support teams during vintage and peak periods, including 12‑hour harvest shifts.
• Coach junior team members and ensure accurate production records.
• Meet production targets and respond to pressure situations safely.

Required profile

• Minimum 3 years experience in winery or cellar operations.
• Strong understanding of cellar processes and ability to work independently.
• Willingness to work rotating shifts and long hours during peak periods.
• Proven leadership – able to step into 1IC/2IC roles and motivate the crew.

What we offer

• Hourly rate $31.00–$32.50 (NZD) depending on experience.
• Leadership allowance for additional responsibilities during harvest.
