About the role

Rocket Lab is seeking a Purchasing Manager to lead its direct‑material procurement function for the Auckland facility. The role will oversee the sourcing of critical raw‑material commodities that support both launch and space‑systems production, ensuring timely delivery and cost‑effective supply.

Key responsibilities

• Lead and develop a high‑performing procurement team focused on aluminum, composites and 3‑D printed materials.
• Own end‑to‑end purchasing of direct materials for launch and space programs, from R&D through production ramp‑up.
• Create and execute a global commodity strategy to meet cost, quality and delivery targets.
• Negotiate pricing and contract terms on a first‑principles basis to optimise material costs.
• Collaborate with engineering, manufacturing and supply‑chain partners to align material supply with production demand.

Required profile

• Proven experience building and leading a procurement or purchasing team in a fast‑growing environment.
• Strong background in direct‑material sourcing for aerospace or high‑tech manufacturing.
• Demonstrated ability to develop commodity strategies and drive cost‑reduction initiatives.
• Excellent negotiation skills and familiarity with machining‑related commodities such as aluminum, composites and additive‑manufactured materials.
