Project Engineer

About the role

Genesis is seeking a Project Engineer to translate strategic plans into technical execution for utility‑scale renewable and battery energy storage system (BESS) projects across pre‑construction, construction and post‑construction phases. The role is based in Auckland or Hamilton and reports to the Technical Manager – Asset Delivery.

Key responsibilities

• Coordinate all technical aspects of utility‑scale renewable and BESS projects from front‑end engineering through to operational handover.
• Work closely with project managers, engineers, consultants and contractors to define technical requirements and ensure quality standards.
• Manage engineering risks, oversee construction quality and support commissioning activities.
• Interpret and apply technical contracts including consultancy, equipment supply, design‑and‑construct (D&C) and EPC models.
• Ensure compliance with New Zealand electricity industry regulations and Transpower grid‑connection requirements.

Required profile

• 5+ years of engineering experience in infrastructure, power systems or utilities.
• 1–2+ years leading engineering activities on major generation or similar infrastructure projects.
• Tertiary qualification in engineering or a related discipline.
• Strong coordination and communication skills with an agile, detail‑oriented mindset.
