Production Technician

About the role

Marama Labs, a deep-tech startup developing the CloudSpec spectrophotometer, is looking for a hands-on production technician in Wellington. You will build CloudSpec instruments from the ground up, covering mechanical and electrical assembly, optical and chemical calibration, commissioning and validation. You will own the quality of what leaves the production facility and work closely with the engineering and science team.

Key responsibilities

• Assemble CloudSpec instruments to specification, including mechanical, electrical and optical sub-systems
• Perform dry commissioning: run test scripts, capture and review data, and confirm device performance against specification
• Perform wet commissioning: prepare solutions, pipette samples and carry out chemical validation testing
• Maintain production equipment and workspace to high standards
• Document all commissioning test results and non-conformances clearly and accurately
• Identify process improvements and raise them proactively

Required profile

• 2+ years of experience producing high-value hardware or instrumentation
• Comfortable with both mechanical and electrical assembly work, precise and good with your hands
• Able to learn and apply the scientific principles behind the technology (UV-Vis spectroscopy, optics, basic chemistry)
• Meticulous attention to detail, strong reading comprehension and ability to follow multi-step procedures
• Paces well, self-motivated, resourceful and a genuine team player

Nice to have

• Engineering degree (mechanical, electrical or related)
• GMP and QMS experience
• Basic scripting or data analysis ability
• Experience in a regulated production environment
