About the role
The University of Canterbury invites applications for a fixed‑term position in the School of Mathematics and Statistics. The role can be taken as a 21‑month Postdoctoral Fellowship (research only) or a 2.5‑year Lecturer appointment (research plus up to 60 lecture hours).
Key responsibilities
- Conduct independent research on geometric aspects of error‑correcting codes, including minimal, additive, subspace and rank‑metric codes.
- Collaborate with the project team led by Associate Prof. Geertrui Van de Voorde and Dr. Ferdinando Zullo.
- If appointed as Lecturer, deliver undergraduate teaching within existing mathematics courses.
- Prepare and present research findings at conferences and seminars.
- Utilise allocated research and conference travel funding.
Required profile
- PhD in Pure Mathematics.
- Strong research background in Finite Geometry, Algebraic Geometry or Coding Theory.
- Excellent publication record and experience presenting to academic audiences.
- Ability to work creatively and independently.
- For the Lecturer option: demonstrated commitment to high‑quality undergraduate teaching.
