Job description
About the role
As an Intern ML Research Engineer, you will work alongside Partly’s Applied ML team to develop and ship machine‑learning and algorithmic solutions for the vehicle‑damage and parts domain. Paired with experienced engineers, you will turn noisy, real‑world data into measurable outcomes and see your work move into production.
Key responsibilities
- Contribute to Applied ML solutions by framing, experimenting, and, when ready, rolling out production‑ready models under mentor guidance.
- Build evaluation pipelines, create gold datasets and metrics that reflect real‑world performance.
- Blend ML and algorithmic techniques, gaining hands‑on experience with modelling, ranking, classification, retrieval, and heuristic methods.
- Consider production constraints such as latency, scale, failure modes, and reliability when designing solutions.
- Collaborate with product and engineering teams to ensure your work drives real outcomes in a high‑velocity environment.
- Maintain reproducible experiments, clear documentation, and thoughtful questioning to enable easy knowledge transfer.
Required profile
- Strong fundamentals in computer science, machine learning, mathematics, or engineering with solid grounding in algorithms and data structures.
- Practical experience building ML or software projects through coursework, personal projects, research, or prior internships.
- Curiosity and an evaluation instinct – you enjoy measuring whether a solution truly improves performance.
- Engineering‑mindset: write clean code, quickly adopt new tools, and focus on getting things to work.
- Clear communicator who can explain thinking, ask for help, and incorporate feedback.
- Bias for learning: eager to tackle hard, real‑world problems and take ownership of personal growth.
