Mental Health Support Worker

About the role

IDEA Services runs a specialist mental health service providing supported accommodation for people with complex care needs and mental health support needs. It is located near Raumati Beach and consists of six homes where you will work alongside an experienced and supportive team. The role is based in Paraparaumu, Kāpiti Coast, with full-time, part-time and casual opportunities available.

• Support safe management of medication
• Build confidence and independence in daily living skills
• Encourage participation in meaningful activities and connection with the local community
• Support exploration of new opportunities for personal growth and independence
• Help people take an active role in deciding what happens in their own lives

Required profile

• Experience in disability, mental health, healthcare, aged care, youth work, wellbeing or community services is highly valued; people with strong people skills from other fields such as customer service, hospitality, education, retail, security, emergency services or trades are also welcome
• Flexibility to work a range of rostered shifts, including weekends, mornings, evenings and occasional overnight shifts
• A calm, patient approach and resilience when supporting people with complex or challenging behaviour
• Ability to build positive, respectful relationships with a diverse range of people
• Physically able to provide support with mobility and personal care when required
• A full New Zealand driver's licence

Required skills

• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• Confidence using computers and tablets in day-to-day work

• $24.68 - $30.13 per hour depending on relevant qualifications, with the ability to earn more as you gain qualifications
