Maintenance Fitter - Food Manufacturing

About the role

Kraft Heinz is hiring full-time Maintenance Fitters for its Tomoana site in New Zealand, in a collaborative on-site engineering and maintenance team. The company offers day-shift and rotating-shift (2 days, 2 nights, 4 days off) positions, with competitive pay and market-leading benefits.

Key responsibilities

• Be the main on-shift contact for urgent maintenance issues and respond quickly to breakdowns across all production lines.
• Diagnose and repair mechanical, air, hydraulic and (where licensed) electrical faults.
• Prioritise work by impact on production, food safety risk and urgency, escalating complex or high-risk issues.
• Provide maintenance cover across departments and step in when other technicians are unavailable.
• Complete scheduled maintenance tasks and support weekend and shutdown plans.
• Identify equipment risks, investigate failures and recommend long-term fixes and reliability improvements.
• Follow lockout/isolation and permit processes and maintain food safety and housekeeping standards.
• Communicate with teams, give shift handovers, coach operators where appropriate and record work accurately.

Required profile

• NZQA Level 4 Mechanical Trade Certificate (Fitter/Turner or Mechanical Engineering).
• Eligibility to work in New Zealand with full working rights.
• Experience in FMCG or high-speed food manufacturing.
• Strong problem-solving, fault-finding and communication skills, with attention to detail and commitment to safety.

Required skills

• Practical mechanical experience with tools, sensors and machine timing.
• Knowledge of hydraulics, pneumatics and PLCs is desirable.
• Seamer experience (Petfood department technician) and limited electrical licence are advantageous.
