Maintenance Engineer

About the role

We are looking for a Maintenance Engineer to join our Pact Packaging team in Wellington. Reporting to the Engineering Manager, you will keep plant equipment running smoothly, troubleshoot issues, and support continuous‑improvement projects to ensure safe, reliable, and efficient manufacturing operations.

Key responsibilities

• Perform preventative and corrective maintenance, fault finding and repairs on manufacturing equipment to maximise reliability and minimise downtime.
• Assist Production Managers with process optimisation, operational support and continuous‑improvement initiatives.
• Operate and monitor factory equipment safely while meeting production, quality and food‑safety requirements.
• Contribute to engineering, maintenance and operational improvement projects.
• Supervise sub‑contractors, manage spare‑parts stores, respond to breakdowns and record activities in the MEX system.
• Promote excellent housekeeping and ensure compliance with GMP and HACCP standards.
• Champion a proactive safety, quality and environmental culture in line with WHSE policies.

Required profile

• Relevant engineering trade qualification and experience in a manufacturing or industrial environment.
• Strong knowledge of manufacturing equipment and complex plant systems.
• Hands‑on mechanical maintenance and fault‑finding capability.
• Proven troubleshooting and problem‑solving skills.
• Ability to prioritise workloads and work effectively within a team.
• Experience leading, supervising or coordinating others when required.
• Good communication skills and confidence using Microsoft Office applications.
