Light Vehicle Mechanic / Service Technician (Full-Time)

About the role

Avis Budget Group is looking for a qualified Mechanic to join its team at Christchurch Airport. The role is full-time and permanent, 40 hours per week, split into four 10-hour shifts on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Saturdays and Sundays. It involves repairing and maintaining the company's fleet of cars, trucks and other vehicles in a timely, efficient and cost-effective way.

Key responsibilities

• Servicing vehicles to manufacturer specifications and company standards, including minor repairs and preventative maintenance such as fluid changes, oil and air filter changes, tyre and brake work and fitting ski racks.
• Monitor inventory and request new parts from the Service Administrator.
• Assemble mechanical components to specification and perform diagnostic tests to identify faults.
• Complete repair orders and provide breakdown assistance, and prepare vehicles for hand back and sale.
• Test and service workshop equipment for safety, and keep accurate job records and servicing history.
• Work safely in line with occupational health and safety policies and report accidents, near misses and hazards.

Required profile

• Full driver's licence, including manual vehicles.
• Motor mechanics trade qualification (Level 4 minimum) with previous motor mechanic experience; experience in the car rental industry is an advantage.
• Experience with both petrol and diesel engines.
• Customer-focused, collaborative and adaptable approach, with good written and verbal communication.
• Ability to manage multiple tasks across several sites with attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
• Knowledge of the relevant occupational health and safety legislation.
• Student visa or WHV holders cannot be accepted, and sponsorship is not offered.

Required skills

• Knowledge of MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook).
• Ability to work 40 hours per week.
