Leading Hand – Carpentry

About the role

Cook Brothers Construction is seeking an experienced Carpentry Leading Hand to join its growing team in beautiful Wānaka. This hands‑on leadership position involves running a site, supporting a crew, and ensuring projects are delivered safely, efficiently and to a high standard.

Key responsibilities

• Lead the carpentry team on‑site, setting the example on tools and workmanship.
• Coordinate trade partners and maintain clear communication between site management, trades and crew.
• Solve on‑site problems, manage daily schedules and keep projects moving.
• Ensure health, safety and wellbeing standards are met at all times.

Required profile

• Recognised NZ or Australian Carpentry qualification (essential).
• Strong commercial construction experience with solid structural knowledge.
• Proven experience leading teams on construction sites.
• Confident communicator able to have constructive conversations.
• Proactive approach to health, safety and wellbeing.

Required skills

• Carpentry qualification (NZ or Australian)
• Microsoft Office
• Licensed Building Practitioner (LBP) – strong advantage
