Investment Director – Senior Leadership Role

About the role

The Investment Director will lead a high‑performing team responsible for the assessment, stewardship and performance of a portfolio of significant Crown investments. Working at the intersection of government, industry and communities, you will shape investments that drive regional economic growth and resilience across New Zealand.

Key responsibilities

• Lead the management and stewardship of a portfolio of Crown investments.
• Assess, structure and negotiate complex investment opportunities and funding arrangements.
• Monitor performance and manage commercial, delivery, financial and reputational risks.
• Provide strategic advice and recommendations to Ministers and senior decision‑makers.
• Build trusted relationships with iwi, Māori organisations, local government, industry and investment partners.
• Develop and mentor a high‑performing team while contributing to branch‑wide leadership.

Required profile

• Extensive commercial leadership experience in investment, banking, corporate finance, infrastructure, project finance, private equity, venture capital or advisory.
• Strong commercial judgement and ability to evaluate complex investment opportunities, risks and outcomes.
• Proven ability to influence decision‑making and provide evidence‑based advice in complex, politically sensitive environments.
• Experience building and managing trusted relationships with government, industry, investors and Māori organisations.
• Demonstrated leadership capability, including people development and team performance.
• Excellent communication, influencing and negotiation skills.
• Legal right to live and work in New Zealand.
