Injury Prevention Coordinator

About the role
The Injury Prevention Coordinator will join Whānau Āwhina Plunket’s Community Services teams in Waikato to deliver child safety and injury‑prevention programmes. Working directly with whānau, volunteers and community partners, you will help create safer environments for tamariki across the region.
Key responsibilities
- Coordinate and deliver injury‑prevention initiatives, including child‑restraint installation services.
- Facilitate community education sessions and workshops on child safety.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with Māori, Pacific and other priority communities.
- Manage stakeholder relationships, plan activities and monitor programme outcomes.
- Travel throughout the region to provide hands‑on support while also coordinating virtually.
Required profile
- Passionate about supporting whānau and improving community wellbeing.
- Demonstrates pro‑equity practice and culturally responsive ways of working.
- Confident communicator who can present information to individuals and groups.
- Adaptable, organised and able to manage competing priorities.
- Committed to collaborative teamwork and continuous improvement.
Required skills
- Strong relationship‑building experience with diverse communities.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Experience presenting or facilitating education sessions.
- Ability to work independently while maintaining stakeholder connections.
- Well‑developed planning, organisational and time‑management abilities.
- Full New Zealand driver licence and willingness to travel.
- Child Restraint Technician qualification or willingness to obtain within three months of appointment.
