Infrastructure Engineer – Linux (12‑month Fixed‑Term)

About the role

Westpac is seeking an Infrastructure Engineer specialising in Linux and Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) to join its Infrastructure Services and Digital Workplace team on a 12‑month fixed‑term contract. The role focuses on ensuring the stability, security and resilience of critical Linux platforms supporting both customers and colleagues.

Key responsibilities

• Provide hands‑on operational support for enterprise RHEL infrastructure and collaborate with third‑party partners.
• Act as an escalation point for operational issues and major incidents.
• Maintain, patch, administer and support Linux environments using Red Hat Enterprise Linux.
• Assess, document and implement platform changes and continuous improvement initiatives.
• Perform structured troubleshooting and deliver clear root‑cause analysis.
• Work closely with business and engineering squads to enhance system resilience.
• Support risk‑management, compliance configuration and monitoring activities.
• Maintain accurate technical documentation and build strong relationships with internal customers and stakeholders.

Required profile

• Minimum five years of IT experience in complex enterprise environments.
• Proven hands‑on experience supporting Red Hat Enterprise Linux in production.
• Experience with Linux maintenance, patching, administration and OS deployment.
• Familiarity with Red Hat Satellite for enterprise patching.
• Strong troubleshooting skills using tools such as tcpdump, strace, netcat, iperf, iostat and top.
• Experience supporting Kerberos in RHEL 8+ environments.
• Working knowledge of VMware and virtualization technologies.
• Basic understanding of networking, storage and backup/recovery concepts.
