About the role
We are looking for a proactive Health, Safety & Wellbeing Lead to shape and embed our HSW strategy across Ko Taku Reo Deaf Education. Based in Christchurch, you will work closely with senior leadership and staff nationwide to create a safe, healthy and supportive environment for our Deaf learners, their families and our team.
Key responsibilities
- Develop, implement and continuously improve the organisation’s health, safety and wellbeing strategy.
- Ensure ongoing compliance with WorkSafe NZ and Ministry of Education regulations.
- Lead policy updates, deliver training programmes and produce regular HSW reports.
- Maintain incident reporting systems, emergency procedures and return-to-work processes.
- Collaborate with internal teams and external advisors to promote a culture of safety and wellbeing.
- Support staff wellbeing through the Employee Assistance Programme and related initiatives.
Required profile
- A Level 7 qualification (or higher) in Health & Safety or Human Resources, or equivalent experience.
- At least five years of experience in a health and safety role, preferably within education or the not-for-profit sector.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to influence and engage a wide range of stakeholders.
- Proficiency in NZSL or a willingness to learn.
- Demonstrated problem-solving and conflict-resolution abilities.
Required skills
- Microsoft Office suite.
- Experience with health, safety and wellbeing reporting systems.
